Today in class we worked on:
3/8 –
1) Purim
2) We had an all school shira & Tfillah with parents too.
3) all school and families Purim carnival where we heard the Megillah and got to boo Haman.
4) Then we went into the carnival, where we had a class booth and had the opportunity to play games run by other CBA classes and JCYS. Together we raised funds and awareness for our class tzedakah: CBA’s Food Pantry.

 

 

Today in class we worked on:
3/1 –
1) Today was all about PURIM- such a fun time in school and class. We had so much to prep we started with a story as we created our posters for our game at the carnival.
2) Gan – 3rd grade joined Rabbi Bellows for T’fillot.
3) Such a fun morning we had so much to do to prep for Purim. We began by setting up stations for our craft, Hebrew, snack and poster making
4) Gan – 3rd grade joined in shira with Morah Ari and Matthew.
5) we washed up said our prayers and had our snack as we began our craft of a mask for Purim and continued our Purim stations: either mask making or Hebrew or poster design whew

 

 

Today in class we worked on:
2/23 –
1) THE TOWER OF BABEL We began our day greeting each other and playing board games/tzedakah
2) Gan – 3rd grade joined Rabbi Bellows for T’fillot.
3) we began our lively discussion and video accompanied by 3 stories on Joseph and his family his message
4) Gan – 3rd grade joined in shira with Morah Ari and Matthew.
5) returning to prayers and snack we began our craft of josephs colorful coat and our designers were up to the task

2) Gan – 3rd grade joined Rabbi Bellows for T’fillot/
3) Today was all about Abraham and Sarah we made our tent and shared our snack of nuts and fruits and cookies lol while listening to two wonderful stories
4) Gan – 3rd grade joined in shira with Morah Ari and Matthew.
5) returning we said our prayers and continued our stories and began a craft of a scene we created of Abraham and Sarah and stars, while listening to Jewish music.  Ask them about the stars

 

 

Today in class we worked on:
2/9 –
1) Morning welcome and games
2) Gan – 3rd grade went to T’fillot with Rabbi Bellows.
3) Last Sunday the class topic was Tu B’Shvat, which is a holiday celebrating the earth and reminding us to honor and care for it. The kids made their own little “worlds” through planting parsley seeds and learning how to care for them at home. We also discussed our favorite parts of nature and how we can care for the them, through drawing and round robin conversations. The students were extremely engaged when it came to brainstorming how we can upkeep the world around us and brought up ideas like recycling, planting trees, and not using straws.
4) Gan – 3rd grade joined in shira with Morah Ari and Matthew.

2/2 –
1) Morning welcome and games
2) We joined the rest of the school for T’fillot with Rabbi Bellows and Rabbi Prass, Morah Ari, and Matthew where we celebrated the 5th grade’s auf ruf,
3) our unit today was on the people of Babel and the lesson from God. We began with a story and a wonderful video on cooperation which led to a great discussion in class.
4) Gan – 3rd grade joined in shira with Morah Ari, who is back from her trip to Africa, and Matthew.
5) We returned to wash up and say our prayers and have our snack while talking. My favorite part of the morning. We worked together and created a long path without talking only about The Tower of Babel, and then drew our version of towers etc.
6) We worked on our Hebrew workbooks today

 

 

Today in class we worked on:
1/26 –
1) Morning welcome and games
2) Rabbi Bellows, Lucy, and Lily M. led Gan – 3rd grade in T’fillah
3) today we introduced Noah and the ark: faith, trust, God. wow huge day
4)  we began with a short video and discussion and two stories before we began our rainbow craft- ask the children about the rainbow.
5) Lily M, Matthew, and Lucy (3 CBA teens) led Gan -3rd grade in shira
6) Returning to our classroom, we washed up and said our blessings before we ate our animal snack.
7) We completed our rainbows and had some fun with our arks before we began our Hebrew lesson

 

 

Today in class we worked on:
1/19 –
1) Morning welcome and games
2) Rabbi Prass and Lily M. led Gan – 3rd grade in T’fillah
3) We had our unit on creation and started with a few stories as we said our prayers and had our snack. We began our creation boards.
4) Lily M led Gan -3rd grade in shira
5) Returning the kids were singing which is always the best and we continued to work on our creation boards that they took home.
6)  We poured our Hebrew alphabet blocks on the table and played a game then finished with a story

2) Rabbi Bellows led Gan – 3rd grade in T’fillah
3) returning to class we focused on the Creation story in the Torah thru video and project.
4) Matthew led Gan -3rd grade in shira
5) returning we washed up said our blessings and shared in special snacks together as we again listened to stories and music as we worked together.
6) We worked on Hebrew.

 

 

Today in class we worked on:
12/15 –
1) Morning welcome and games
2) Rabbi Prass. Rabbi Bellows, Morah Ari and Matthew led a special Gan – 6th grade T’fillah where we celebrated the consecration of our new students.
3) returning to our busy mensch classroom, we began our Hanukah unit. We worked with play doe making our holiday shapes, let them dry at home you can either leave them or paint. We listened to holiday music as we worked then alternated with a few holiday stories
4) Morah Ari and Matthew led Gan -3rd grade in shira
5) returning we washed up said our blessings and shared in special snacks together as we again listened to stories and music as we worked together.
6) We then broke off into two groups one to craft a paper chain menorah and another for games

12/8 –
1) Morning welcome and games
2) Rabbi Prass led Gan – 3rd grade in T’fillah
3) Today we begin the children’s least favorite holiday HANUKAH, LOL! Listening to music all morning while we listened to two stories and colored our holiday memories and began our menorah craft.
4) Morah Ari and Matthew led Gan -3rd grade in shira
5) Returning to class, with so much happy energy, we made our menorahs and discussed Chanukah and tradition and listened to two more Chanukah stories.

11/24 –
1) Morning welcome and games
2) Rabbi Bellows led Gan – 3rd grade in T’fillah
3) We returned to complete our tzedakah boxes while we listened to two more stories.
4) We finished with Hebrew and learned a new letter then worked on our Hebrew workbooks
5) returning to class we washed up, said our blessings and had our snack. We listened to three stories: one on Israel for our upcoming unit and the rabbi joined us to create visuals with our book. So fun! The other books were on gratitude for our upcoming holiday and learning to breathe and be which the children enjoyed so much. So helpful in learning to relax and be present.
6) We made our door hangers with shalom on them.
7) Morah Ari and Matthew led Gan -3rd grade in shira
8) We retuned and read 2 more books on shalom and Israel and made a game for the holiday with a gratitude in Hebrew craft we finished.
9) With Hebrew, we learned a new letter then worked on our Hebrew workbooks and practiced writing on the board

11/17 –

2) Rabbi Prass led Gan – 3rd grade in T’fillah
3) Returning to class we washed up, said our blessings and had our snack. While we listened to two wonderful stories the children who needed to, finished their Shabbat boxes and the rest of us continued our new project. We all caught up.
4) Morah Ari and Matthew led Gan -3rd grade in shira
5) We returned to complete our tzedakah boxes while we listened to two more stories.
6) We finished with Hebrew and learned a new letter then worked on our Hebrew workbooks

11/10 –
1) Morning welcome and games
2) Rabbi Prass led Gan – 3rd grade in T’fillah
3) returning to class we discussed tzedakah and mitzvoth and shared our stories as we ate our snack and listened to two great stories and watched a short video.
4) We began our shabbat box craft to complete and add all year
5) Morah Ari and Matthew led Gan -3rd grade in shira
6) we walked around to each class to share tzedakah and gave Mrs. Cohen a contribution from each of us for the food pantry.
7) We completed our boxes and they turned our just beautiful we finished with two more stories

 

 

Today in class we worked on:
11/3 –
1) We started with our welcome games and collected tzedakah.
2) Rabbi Prass led Gan – 3rd grade in T’fillah
3) Back in class, today our unit was on Havdalah. We completed our Shabbat mats and Mrs Cohen will be laminating them for us TODAH MRS COHEN!
4) We washed up and had our snack, while we listened to 2 Shabbat stories.
5) We began making our Havdalah spice kits and they turned out just adorable putting their artistic spin on each.
6) Morah Ari and Matthew led Gan -3rd grade in shira
7) We returned to class and finished our spice kits and listened to 2 more stories. We love our stories!
8) We learned another Hebrew letter and each of us used the dry erase board to work on writing our letters then we worked on our workbooks

 

 

 

Today in class we worked on:
10/27 –
1) We started with our welcome games
2) It was great to have so many parents with us for the annual Kindergarten boker b’yachad (literally morning together) family Ed.  The parents attended an adult ed program on Jewish parenting with Rabbi Bellows.
3) Today our unit was on Shabbat but with our parents in attendance OUR FIRST PART OF OUR MORNING WE BEGAN OUR SHABBAT UNIT WE LIT OUR CANDLES, said our prayers and washed up we had our placemats and our challah and shared in shabbat we then began our kiddush cup project we listened to shabbat music and listened to two fun stories
4) For Shira, our parents joined us for us. We also joined with all of Gan – 6th grade for a whole school summer camp sing along (think Puff the magic dragon, MTA song) and Havdalah.
5) With our moms and dads in the classroom we finished our cup project and shared stories we then began our placemats which we will complete next week we ended with our favorite story
Homework to be completed by next class:
10/27 – Next week (11/3), please have your child bring an 1) empty shoebox 2) a family picture and 3) their Hebrew names.

 

 

 

Today in class we worked on:
10/20 –
1) Welcome games
2) Rabbi Prass led Gan – 3rd grade in T’fillah
3) Today our unit was on Simchat TORAH AND WHAT A FUN BUSY AM ! We returned to class, washed upend had our snack, first saying our prayers while listening to festive music and working on our Hebrew books.
4) We began our TORAH craft while listening to festive music. You should hear them singing all the time
5) Morah Ari led Gan – 3rd grade in shira
6) Back in class we continued to work on our Torah craft which they enjoyed so much and we marched to music circling our room seven times
7) We made our Israeli flags and finished with 2 stories.
Homework to be completed by next class:
10/20 – Next week (10/27) is our Boker B’yachad (family ed) program.  We look forward to seeing our parents there.

 

 

 

Today in class we worked on:
10/13 – It was a special morning in that, in advance of the Sukkot holiday we had a special program at CBA’s synagogue.
1) We began the session with an all school T’fillah led by Rabbi Prass and Morah Ari.  We heard a story about sukkot, and we talked about the different ‘things’ in our synagogue space which make this space ‘holy’ vs a regular room. (aka eternal lamp, ark, etc.)
2) Our class joined the other grades in our Religious School, for a series of rotations related to the holiday. At each station we learned new things including possible themes and images we might want to assemble in our own sukkah and discussing broken items in our world today.
3) Additionally, we had the chance, with Rabbi Bellows to visit the Beth Am sukkah outside, sign our name on the 5780 panel, and shake the lulav/etrog.
4) With Rabbi Prass we talked about the situation of interning children at the US border with Mexico.  This was done in an age appropriate way. Also, we didn’t discuss border policy, but rather focused on the living conditions those detained are going thru.
5) This was a lead in to our special Tzedakah project of the session, where our class, in conjunction with other Chicagoland synagogues, made packets of sanitary items for those women and yeladim.
6) We concluded with a very spirited shira session of ballads geared towards Chag HaSukkot with Morah Ari!

10/6 –
1) We began as we always do collecting tzedakah, games and saying hello.
2) Rabbi Bellows led Gan – 3rd Grade in our first T’fillah of the school year.
3) Returning to class, the children studied the Biblical story Jona thru a book, craft, and video.
4) Morah Ari led all of Gan – 3rd grade in shira.
5)  We returned to our classroom to learn a new Hebrew letter and completed our craft.  In addition with did Tashlich in the sink.

 

 

Today in class we worked on:
9/22 –
1) We began as we always do collecting tzedakah, games and saying hello.
2) Rabbi Prass led Gan – 3rd Grade in our first T’fillah of the school year.
3) Returning to class, the children could not stop singing today’s songs they recognized and Morah Ari sang today and
it was so fun! We washed up and said our prayers and had our snacks! As we shared our snack we read 2 stories about our upcoming holidays.
4) Morah Ari and Matthew led all of Gan – 3rd grade in shira.
5)  We returned to our classroom to learn a new Hebrew letter and worked our workbooks which they loveeeeeeeee.  We created our holiday card while listening to holiday music and singing !

 

 

Today in class we worked on:
9/17 –
1) We began as we always do collecting tzedakah, games and saying hello.
2) Rabbi Bellows led Gan – 3rd Grade in our first T’fillah of the school year.
3) We continued our unit on getting to know each other and Rosh Hashanah. We read 2 stories when we returned after we washed up and while we were eating our snack. Such a wonderful
time to get to know each other as we share a snack together. We began our craft of our beautiful apple decorated craft that has a magnet to hang!
4) Morah Ari and Matthew led all of Gan – 3rd grade in shira.
5)  Returning we worked on our holiday crafts and continued singing our songs as we worked together finishing we learned another Hebrew letter as we worked on our workbooks

 

 

Today in class we worked on:
9/8 – What a wonderful morning! We began as we always do collecting tzedakah, games and saying hello. Some of us returning and we met new friends. I enjoyed meeting the children’s parents, thank you for coming. Please feel free to contact me if you need anything (adel4@att.net). We went around the room and said something about ourselves and being Jewish. I loved their answers. Morah Ari and Matthew led all of Gan – 3rd grade in shira. We returned to class and we washed up, said our prayers and had our snack. We then read our stories about the Jewish new year, Rosh Hashanah, as we shared. We made a fun craft of an eaten apple for our holiday tables. Then we introduced our Hebrew workbooks and became familiar with them. We ended our first and wonderful am with our class book!
